Today was an off day on the schedule, but not for specific players. Matt Cain, Travis Ishikawa, and Eli Whiteside suited up to play the Adv A Angels this afternoon at Indian School Park.
Diamond Notes:
- Matt threw 6 innings today, which is the longest by any starter thus far. He was looking pretty good today, 3-4H (Depending on error scoring), BB, 2R, 1ER, 1HR, and 5Ks. That’s all unofficial though as I was trying to keep track of both games. Of the 3-4 hits 1 was a broken bat single, 1 was a single to CF, 1 was a bunt nubber that wasn’t picked up cleaning by 3B, and the last one was a HR. Matt knew once he let it go that it was a mistake as he served one up. I guess he made some prospects day as now he can say he took Matt Cain yard. I didn’t get the players name because I didn’t have an Angels roster, but I believe he was number “81” which may or may not help you figure out his status, I’ll let you decide.
- It was great to see Travis Ishikawa at 1B and taking some cuts. He looked pretty good to me, I couldn’t see the foot hurting him in anyway. At the plate, he grounded out to short, and hit a deep Sac Fly to straight away center.
- Eli Whiteside caught Cain, which was cool because they obviously have worked together before. The unearned run scored on an throw to 3B as the runner on second was attempting to steal. The throw from Whiteside was on the money, but Jake Dunning either couldn’t handle it or the runner slid in to the throw, E5 I would guess.
I also got a funny shot of Eli at the plate. He fouled off a pitch straight down off of the plate. When it bounced back up I snapped a photo at the exact moment it nicks him in the groin.
- I don’t know how much of an indication the rosters are at this point, but the San Jose team included, Culberson, Benusa, Rodriguez, Windster, Cavan, Perez, Eschelman, and Mach to name a few.
- The other game today was the against the low A teams and that game was started by BJ Salsbury and Tommy Joseph as battery mates. Unfortunately, my focus was primarily on Matt’s game, but I jumped over every once and awhile to get some shots. I have no idea what the score was and who did what.
- Although I was jumping around, I did get to catch an inning by Jason Stoffel on the Augusta side. Stoffel is nasty. 2K’s and GO, he had the hitters guessing. Plus, I think they were afraid of the ‘stache.
