The AFL 2009 season is officially over and Giants baseball resumes when pitchers and catchers report for Spring Training. However, the Scorpions apparently didn’t want the season to end going on a hit parade to the tune of 17 runs on 21 hits. It was a long game, but every Giant was in the lineup which made it a little less painful as I was able to get some more shots.

Diamond Notes:

* Joe Martinez got the final start going 3IP, 11H, 7ER, 1BB, 2K. Obviously it’s not the way Joe wanted to head in to the offseason, but this team picked him up. He ends the AFL with a 1-0 record.

* Daniel Turpen came in to relieve Martinez in the 4th and threw 2 scoreless innings. This also got his ERA below 4.

* Steve Edlefsen pitched a scoreless 6th, lowering his ERA to 2.08.

* Thomas Neal was back in the lineup today in LF, 2-5, RBI, 2R, BB. It was great to watch Thomas today because of the stolen base crown up for grabs. The whole game it was back and forth between him and Chase D’Arnaud. Chase would steal, then Thomas would grab a bag his next AB. They both ended up getting 2 on the day, which gives Chase the 1SB lead. The dugout was into it as well, cheering and heckling accordingly.

* Buster Posey also had 2 hits in the DH spot going 2-4, 4RBI, 2BB. An amazing line from the 6 hole. It would have bee great to see him catch Joe one more time, but rest is always welcome when these guys have played nonstop all year.

* Brandon Crawford did what he had to do today. He was asked to lay down a bunt in a 17 run game, he got it down and almost beat it out. More importantly, he also went 3-6 and scored 3 runs. He had to have a great offensive day because he was sitting at .295 on the season, he now ends the 2009 AFL campaign with a .326 average (.444 against lefties…He bats LH). Banister must have had a change of heart for the last game as well as he finally wrote in Brandon at SS instead of 3B. He turned a 3-6-3 DP as well.

* Lastly, someone needs to make sure Jose Tabata is actually human. He went 6-7 today with 2 doubles. This raised his average to .392 and furthered his league leading 47 hits. He’s like the “Venezuelan Ichiro.”

I’ll do a recap on Sunday about the season as a whole, but for now, take a look at the photos there were a lot today
