Nothing like going oppo yard on the first pitch you see. That’s exactly what Buster Posey did today as he demolished a Nick Hill fastball back, back, back and deep on to Salty’s Pavilion in right field. It was a 2 run shot that gave the Scorpions the lead 2-0 after 2.
I left midway through the 5th inning and it seemed that 2 runs were all it was going to take as Mike Cisco was rollin’ going 4.2IP, 2H, 1ER (runner allowed to score by Garcia in 5th) 4K’s. But, bullpen woes and fielding errors continued as they proceeded to give up 5 more runs (only 2ER) to drop this contest 6-4.
* As stated, Buster had a great day at and behind the plate. I only got to see 2AB’s as I had an appointment, but the second AB was worked full and he then proceeded to crush another ball to deep center but it carried in to the corner of the batter’s eye caught on the track. The measurement to dead center at Scottsdale Stadium is 430 to give you an idea.
That said, he managed the game very well with Cisco as they went 4.2IP scoreless.
* Brandon Crawford was in the DH spot today going 1-4, BB, SO, SB. He’s still batting a .326 clip. I gotta say I love watching him on the base paths and teams know he’s going to run on them. He’s only got 4 total, but it seems like he’s got the green light every time he’s on first.
* Thomas Neal went 0-4 today but the kid hustles 9 innings everyday. He is the first one on the field from the dugout sprinting every half inning. It’s a respect for the game that some players lose. He also almost made a diving play on a little duck snort single to LF, ultimately he didn’t come up with it, but I know pitchers love that type of effort behind them.
