A great way to start Halloween is to get a W and see a great effort from the Orange and Black.

Th Scorpions finally end their skid by shutting out the Saguaros in the first AFL game played at Goodyear Ballpark. Terrific pitching from Donnie Veal and the ‘pen was a welcome change of pace from the last couple of days. Veal went 4IP, 2H, 0ER, 5K’s. This guy is a stud and you can see why Pittsburgh had to hide him from getting claimed. In the AFL a 4 inning performance with 0ER is considered a quality start, especially working on the 60 pitch, pitch count.

* Brandon “The Professor” Crawford continues to play well as he goes 3-5, 1R, 2SB. He was again at 3B.

* Thomas Neal was back in the lineup today after sitting the past 4 games from being hit in the hand on Monday. 1-4, RBI, BB, SB. It’s a productive line for his first game back.

* I always liked David Bell. He is the manager for the Saguaros working in the Reds system. I know he only played for us for one year in 2002, the WS letdown, but he was a great piece to the puzzle and he gets fired up. I was sitting right behind the dugout for the last couple innings and he definitely takes this league seriously. I like that in a manager. If you feel like your team is getting shafted, let it fly and make sure the umps know about it.

* I love the AFL. If you love the game, you can’t help but enjoy this league. Season pass to go to as many games as you want, sit wherever you want, and probably about 800 people in the crowd on a good day. All that coupled with the fact you are watching high quality play and the stars of the future.

Today was a perfect day for baseball, 78 degrees, sunny, not a whole lot of wind, in a just a great little park. I think Goodyear maybe one of my favorites to watch a game.

* There are a lot of pictures today because I didn’t even do my basic sorting before upload. This roll is every picture taken, so please sift through wisely as there will be repeats and not so good shots. Going to Reformation Day party not a lot of time, but tomorrow we will have the winner of the caption contest and a new contest for Off Day Sunday.
