This game was over after the first inning. Scorpions lose to the tune of 12-5 with Mesa winning 11-0 after 4. Brutal fielding mixed with poor pitching really put this game away.

This was my first time to Hohokam Stadium and I really enjoyed how it shot. The way the seats are set up there is also a photographers pit on either side of the dugout open to stand in and shoot. It also has a club level to get higher shots.

Again not a whole lot to discuss game wise, but here are the diamond notes:

* Brandon Crawford had a great day at the plate going 2-4, HR, BB, RBI. It was a blast to left, and I was worried the wind would knock it down as it was blowing pretty hard but it made it out. Defensively however, they gave him 2 errors on 2 throws. I am unsure if those weren’t also Brandon Allen’s fault. He had a horrific day playing 1B letting balls hit his glove and come out or fly past him.

* Speaking of 1B, Thomas Neal was taking infield practice @ 1B with Allen. It was interesting since he is a terrific OF. He took BP today as well and hit some balls hard so it appears the fastball on the hands isn’t too big a deal. This was his second consecutive day on the bench.

* BP in fall league is always fun to watch. Since there isn’t a full coaching staff on the AFL roster, players will help with drills. Daniel Turpen is often seen hitting fungos, and Steve Edlefsen was in at 1st, fielding.

* Posey was moved down a slot to the 6 hole and wouldn’t you know it 1-3, 2R, BB. Hey, it’s not mindshattering, but that line has been better than a lot of his games from the 5 hole.

* Finally, my new favorite delivery of the AFL goes to Tooru Murata. He’s from the Yomiuri Giants out here to hone some of his pitches. I hope they don’t change his mechanics one bit. I added a photo to the post but you can view more stills from his delivery in the flickr set. Not to be cliche’ but it’s almost like monkey/drunken boxing kung fu delivery, with his wrist bent back awkwardly and his left leg almost coming perpendicular to his right one. It’s like he’s made out of rubber or something. He’s awesome, really nice too, love that guy.
