If you have experienced Arizona baseball then most likely you have experienced “The Best” and “Flag Lady.” They are definite fanatics of all things D-Backs, and thus the Scottsdale Scorpions. I honestly don’t know either lady’s real name, these are just the aliases my wife and I have come to know them by.

They are a pair of the nicest ladies you will ever meet. They have a heart for their team and a love for the game of baseball which is a breathe of fresh air during the AFL. You wouldn’t believe how many autograph dealers stake out the stadium only to leave before game time. These two aren’t like that at all. They come for BP, watch the game intently and are the last to leave the ballpark after congratulating their team win or lose.

During the game:

“The Best” tells everyone they are “The Best.” Pretty self explanatory I guess. I always enjoy new players who aren’t familiar with her. I can see them mouth the words, “dude, we can’t all be the best…” For some reason, to her, I think you can be.

Flag lady cruises in usually aware of where she should sit as not to bother people’s view. Then waves decorative flags in relation to what may or may not be needed in the game. (I took a look at those bad boys and I think she has had anyone ever to put on a uni autograph it somewhere). She also brings candy for the players…candy! Like Tootsie Pops and Bazooka. That right there my friends is little league flashback.

In the end, do their antics get a little much at times?

Let’s be honest, they do.

But in my opinion, they have no ulterior motive but to see these kids do well, even the one’s with Giants across their chest. To me that’s pretty commendable.
